Sammendrag
The goal of this work was to optimize the carbon coating of silica from diatom frustules as a high performance, low cost and environmentally friendly anode material for lithium ion batteries. This was done by investigating the influence of carbon coating with sucrose as the carbon precursor. To optimize the carbon coating of silica, the sucrose and silica mix was pyrolysed between 650 C and 1050 C. After choosing an ideal temperature of 1050 °C, the influence of carbon content was investigated by electrochemical characterization. From this it was concluded that the carbon coating inhibits silica conversion at the specific current utilized in this work.
