Å lage hiphop med egenproduserte sampler - En utforskning av en alternativ kreativ prosess

Abstract

Dette prosjektet utforsker den kreative prosessen rundt det å produsere biter av musikk i ulike sjangre, for så å sample denne musikken i hiphop. Gjennom komponering og produksjon av musikk i stil av 70-talls soul, funk og R&B, og sampling av denne musikken i produksjonen av hiphop-instrumentaler i stil av 90- og 2000-tallets samplebaserte hiphop, vil jeg se på hvilken innvirkning en slik rekontekstualisering av det kreative arbeidet kan ha på prosessen rundt det å skrive musikk "fra bunnen av", hvordan bruken av egetprodusert materiale påvirker samplingsprosessen, og hvorvidt en slik tilnærming kan resultere i hiphop-instrumentaler som nærmer seg sounden av den klassiske samplebaserte hiphop-en, uten bruk av opphavsrettsbeskyttet materiale. Resultatet av det praktiske arbeidet er vedlagt som lydfiler.

This project explores the creative process around producing pieces of music in different genres, to then sample this music in hip-hop. Through composition and production of music in the style of 70’s soul, funk and R&B, and sampling of this music in the production of hip-hop instrumentals in the style of the 90’s and 2000’s sample based hip-hop, I’ll look at how this recontextualization of the creative work can affect the process of writing music from the ground up, how the use of self-produced material affects the sampling process, and whether such an approach can result in hip-hop instrumentals resembling the sound of classic sample-based hip-hop, without the use of copyrighted material. Results of the practical work are appended as sound files.
