Hvordan Den sjette sansen lurte meg - og hvorfor det virket

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven har mål om å vise hvordan Den sjette sansen skjuler informasjon gjennom narrativ struktur, stemningsbygging og karakterengasjement, og hvordan dette bidrar til filmens plot twist. Oppgaven benytter seg av en min egen seeropplevelse som metodisk inngang og viser til hvordan filmen klarer å lede seerens forventninger og persepsjon til å ikke forstå plot twisten før siste slutt. Filmen og filmopplevelsen analyseres ved hjelp av de kognitive filmteoretikerne David Bordwell, Greg M. Smith og Murray Smith. Analysen gir grunn til å hevde at samspillet av teoriene styrker avsløringen.

This bachelor thesis aims to show how The Sixth Sense hides information through narrative structure, mood and character engagement, and how this contributes to the movie’s plot twist. Throughout the text I use my own spectator experience, which serves as a working hypothesis, illustrating how the film steers the audiences’ expectations and perception away from the plot twist until the very end. The film and film reception are analyzed through the cognitive film theorists David Bordwell, Greg M. Smith, and Murray Smith. The findings indicate that the interaction between their theories enhances the twist.
