Bong Joon-ho som en politisk regissør - En auteurstudie og en marxistisk analyse av Memories of Murder

Abstract

Målet mitt for denne bacheloroppgaven er å tematisere Bong Joon-ho som en politisk regissør, ved å vise til hans år på Yonei Universitet som en politisk aktiv student. Jeg vil videre se på Bong sin generasjon av filmskapere «386 generasjonen» som har blitt inspirert og påvirket av historiske hendelser som har skjedd gjennom deres diktatur og militærdiktatur på 60-,70-, og 80-tallet i Korea. Jeg skal også gjøre en auteurteori av Bong Joon-ho hvor jeg vil vise de politiske kjennetegnene og tematikkene i hans filmografi. I auteurteorien vil jeg bruke Janet Staigers og David A. Gerstner bok Authorship and Film (Staiger og Gerstner 2003), som jeg skal bruke til å se på forfatterskap som signatur og personlighet-tilnærmingen, samt trekke inn eksempler fra tekstene til forsker på koreansk film Christina Klein. Avslutningsvis skal jeg gjøre en marxistisk analyse av Memories om Murder (Joon-ho 2003, 02:05:28) hvor jeg vil bruke Antonio Gramsci sitt begrep om Hegemoni, samt Louis Althusser begreper om det undertrykkende statsapparat (The repressive state apparatus) og det ideologiske statsapparatet (The ideological state apparatus).

My goal for this bachelor thesis is to thematize Bong Joon-ho as a political director, by referring to his years at Yonei university as a politically active student. I will further look at Joon-ho’s generation of filmamkers «the 386 generation» who have been inspired and influenced by historical events that have occurred during their dictatorship and military dictatorship in the 60s, 70s and the 80s in Korea. I will also do an auteur theory of Bong Joon-ho where I will show the political characteristics and themes of his filmograhy. In the auteur theory I will use Janet Staiger and David A. Gerstner bok about Authorship and film (Staiger and Gerstner 2023) which I shall use to look at authorship as a signature and the approach, as well as drawing on examples from the texts of Koreann film scholar Christina Klein. In conclusion, I will do a marxist analysis of Mmeories of Murder (Joon-ho 2003, 02:05:28) where i shall use Antonio Gramsci’s concept of Hegeomony, as well as Louis Althusser’s concepts of the repressive state apparatus and then ideological state appparatus.
