I haven en avsløring mellom Oscar Wergeland og historiemaleriet

Abstract

I 1893 ble maleriet I Haven kjøpt for Brennevinssamlagets bidrag for en konkurranseutstilling til Trondheim Kunstmuseum. Malt av Oscar Wergeland som gjennom norsk kunsthistorie har fått en relativt beskjeden plassering. Han blir særlig omtalt i forbindelse med hans kjente verk Eidsvold 1814, og andre kunstnere fra samme periode. Selv om Wergeland utdannet seg som historiemaler viser I Haven, i likhet med flere av hans malerier, at han arbeidet innenfor ulike sjangre og formidlet norsk natur og identitet på en særskilt måte.

In 1893, the painting I Haven was purchased as a contribution from Brennevinssamlaget to a competition exhibition at the Trondheim Art Museum. Painted by Oscar Wergeland, who has been given a relatively modest position throughout Norwegian art history. He is particularly mentioned in connection with his famous work Eidsvold 1814, and other artists from the same period. Although Wergeland pursued training as a history painter, I Haven, like several of his paintings, shows that he worked within different genres and conveyed Norwegian nature and identity in a special way.
