Abstract

This thesis deals with Katharina Fritsch's Madonna sculpture, as it is exhibited in Trondheim's museum of modern art PoMo. The sculptures iconographic roots are examined and compared with Fritsch's postmodern twist. The text is partly based on Nicolas Bourriaud's theoretical framework for relational aesthetics and considers the theme against today's digital and algorithmic culture.
