Kartlegging av variasjoner ved CT caput-prosedyrer for barn på norske sykehus

Abstract

Problemstilling: Er det variasjoner av parametere for CT caput-prosedyrer for barn under 12 år med indikasjon om akutt tilstand på norske sykehus?

Formål: Formålet med oppgaven er å finne ut om det er variasjoner i scanparametere for prosedyrer ved CT caput undersøkelser av barn under 12 år. I tillegg ønsker å bidra med økt bevissthet rundt bruken av prosedyrer på norske sykehus.

Metode: Det er benyttet en kvantitativ metode for å besvare problemstillingen. Data ble innsamlet via e-post fra norske sykehus. For å kartlegge variasjoner for CT caput-prosedyrer for barn ble det opprettet to aldersgrupper.

Resultat: Det ble observert variasjoner i scanparametere for CT caput-undersøkelser for barn, og resultatene er presentert i tabeller, tekst og en figur. De største variasjonene ble sett for mAs parameteren, her var det store intervaller i begge aldersgruppene. For kV, pitch og rotasjonstid var det mindre variasjoner. Resultatene ble sett i sammenheng med helseregioner og CT-maskin, og det kom frem at Siemens var den mest brukte CT-maskinen.

Konklusjon: Oppgaven konkluderer med at det er variasjoner av parametere for CT caput-prosedyrer for barn under 12 år. Årsakene til variasjonene er sammensatte og avhenger av aldersgrupper, helseregioner og CT-maskiner. Forslag til videre forskning kan være å se på hva slags bildekvalitet som godtas for barn sammenlignet med voksne i sammenheng med scanparameterne, for å jobbe mot å optimalisere prosedyrer.

Research topic: Are there variations in CT caput protocols for pediatric patients under 12 years old at Norwegian hospitals?

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to find out whether there are variabilities in scan parameters for CT caput-protocols used for children under 12 years old. In addition, the purpose is to raise awareness about the use of pediatric protocols in Norway.

Method: A quantitative method was used to answer this research question. The data were collected via email form Norwegian hospitals. To identify variations in pediatric CT head procedures, two age groups were established.

Results: Variations in scan parameters for CT head examinations for pediatric patients, these results are presented in tables, text, and a diagram. The most substantial variations were found in the mAs values, with wide ranges across both age groups. In comparison, variations in kV, pitch and rotation time were smaller. The results were analyzed in relations to region and CT machine types, with Siemens being the most used scanner.

Conclusion: This thesis concludes that there are variations in scan parameters in CT caput protocols for pediatric patients. The reasons for the variations are complex and depend on age groups, regions, and CT machines. A suggestion for further research could be to explore acceptable image quality for pediatric patients compared to adults in relation to scan parameters, with the aim of contributing to the optimization of CT protocols. Therefore, further research is still needed within this topic.
