Abstract

Den velkjente, offentlege arkitekturen frå etterkrigstida har nådd eit kritisk punkt. Med si insisterande, rasjonelle framtoning, representerer han ein arkitektonisk stil som mange utanfor vårt fagfelt helst vil rive, fordi dei ikkje ser verdien i han. Korleis bør vi forholde oss til denne bygningsarven og kvifor er han så upopulær?

På ei oppdagingsferd i Selje sitt fråflytta kommunehus, opnar vi ein diskusjon om kva rolle estetikken bør ha i arkitekturen, og kva rolle arkitekturen bør spele i bygda. Vi transformerer huset tre gongar og lærer noko nytt kvar gong.

The well-known, public architecture from the post-war era has reached a critical point. With its insistent, rational appearance, it represents an architectural style that many outside our field would rather demolish because they fail to see its value. How should we approach this architectural heritage, and why is it so unpopular?

On an exploratory journey through Selje's abandoned municipal building, we open a discussion about the role aesthetics should play in architecture and the role architecture should play in the community. We transform the building three times, learning something new each time.
