Forskjellene mellom filmadaptasjonene til Ringenes Herre og Hobbiten

Abstract

I denne oppgaven skal jeg se nærmere på hvilke tilpasninger som er gjort for å adaptere bøkene Hobbiten og Ringenes Herre-trilogien til film. Førstnevnte ble adaptert til en filmtrilogi på lik linje med Ringenes Herre trilogien, som ble begge regissert av Peter Jackson. Jeg skal se på forskjellene og likhetene for å finne ut mer om hvorfor den ene filmtrilogien er høyere ansett blant publikum enn den andre. Min problemstilling er: «Hva gjør Ringenes Herre-trilogien mer mer lojal adaptasjon enn Hobbiten -trilogien i adaptering fra bok til film?» Jeg vil ta i bruk filmadaptasjonsteori og plukke ut spesifikke scener fra bøkene og filmene som eksempler og sammenligne dem. Jeg vil også vise til et brev som J.R.R. Tolkien selv har skrevet for å illustrere mine poenger. Jeg vil gjennomgå valgene som er blitt gjort og se på forskjellene på de to trilogiene. Noe av det jeg også kommer til å gå inn på, er forholdene da filmene ble lagd, teknologi som 3D, økonomiske hensyn og hvordan filmene bruker kildemateriale fra bøkene.

In this assignment I will look closer on what changes has been made to adapt the books The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy to film. The Hobbit was also adapted to a film trilogy, the same as Lord of the Rings and were directed by Peter Jackson. I am going to study the differences as well as the similarities of between them, and to find out why the Lord of the Rings film trilogy is better considered than The Hobbit trilogy. My thesis statement is: “What makes the Lord of the Rings trilogy a more faithful adaptation than The Hobbit?”. I wanna use filmadapting theories to find certain scenes from the book and films as examples and compare them. I will show some mention of the letters J.R.R. Tolkien wrote, to illustrate my points. I will review the choices made and look at the differences between the two trilogies. Some of the things I will address are the conditions under which the films were made, technology such as 3D, economic considerations and how the films use the source material.
