Design for byduer med fokus på tilrettelegging og sameksistens

Abstract

Dette prosjektet utforsker bruken av design for å forbedre livskvaliteten til urbane duer og bedre deres sameksistens med mennesker. I motsetning til andre tiltak rettet mot duer, er målet å skape et oppholdsrom for dem, og dermed redusere nærhet til mennesker. Den fungerer som et hvilested, som gir dem oversikt om dagen, og ly om natten. Konseptet består av leiremoduler som er innrammet i tre. For at løsningen skal være ønsket og akseptert av mennesker, fokuserer den på estetikk og enkelhet. Antall moduler kan optimaliseres til behovene til hvert enkelt sted, og formen kan omorganiseres i forskjellige konstellasjoner. For å tilrettelegge for duene er det funksjonelt utformet med fokus på deres preferanser. Designet er inspirert av dueslagene til gamle sivilisasjoner i Midtøsten, og materialet er valgt basert på det naturlige habitatet til deres forgjenger, steinduen. Modulen er allsidig utformet og kan henges på fasaden til et eksisterende bygg, mures inn i et nytt bygg eller monteres på en metallramme.

This project explores the use of design to improve the life quality of urban pigeons and better their coexistence with humans. Contrary to other measures directed at pigeons, the goal is to create a space for them to stay, and thereby reduce closeness to humans. It serves as a resting place that provides them with an overview during the day, and shelter during the night.

The concept consists of clay modules framed in wood. For the solution to be wanted and accepted by humans it focuses on aesthetics and simplicity. The number of modules can be optimised to the needs of each specific location, and the shape can be reorganised into different constellations. To be appealing to the pigeons, it’s functional and focused on their preferences. The design is inspired by the dovecotes of ancient civilizations in the Middle-East, and the material is chosen based on the natural habitat of their predecessor, the rock dove. To be as versatile as possible, it can be hung on the facade of an existing building, bricked into a new building or mounted on a metal frame.
