Sammendrag
Bakgrunn.
Background. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a lifestyle disease often associated with overweight and obesity. Nurses encounter these patients in all workplaces. I am interested in finding out how much nutrition means for T2D patients.
Purpose. In this literature study, I will illuminate the nurse’s role in relation to nutrition, which can help patients with T2D. It is an important role to educate, motivate, and support patients, and I will go deeper into nutrition, and the knowledge around the connection, to see how much it can influence patients with the diagnosis.
Method. The assignment is a literature study. With the databases PubMed and Cinahl. and with the help of the PICO scheme, inclusion and exclusion criteria., I found 7 peer-reviewed articles that I have analyzed and interpreted, to find answers to my research.
Results. Main findings: mapping and diet plan can promote optimal nutrition in patients with T2D. This presupposes that both the nurse and the patient receive education and guidance, and that the nurses have time and tools to achieve the goal.
Conclusion. By strengthening the patient’s knowledge and motivation, the patients are more receptive to guidance and teaching that promotes optimal nutrition. The nurse needs sufficient knowledge and time, and collaboration. In this way, the nurse can promote optimal nutrition in DT2 patients.
