Hvilke utfordringer knyttet til kulturforståelse opplever flerkulturelle familier i møte med barnevernet?

Abstract

Denne oppgaven tar utgangspunkt i noen sentrale utfordringer knyttet til kulturforståelse som flerkulturelle familier kan oppleve i møte med barnevernet. Oppgaven benytter litteraturstudie som metode. Data er innhentet gjennom eksisterende teori og forskning for å belyse oppgavens problemstilling. Norge har blitt et mer mangfoldig land, og basert på tidligere forskning, indikerer disse funnene at familier med en flerkulturell bakgrunn opplever flere utfordringer i møte med det norske barnevernet. Disse utfordringene er sammenfattet i ulike kategorier knyttet til frykt og mistillit, kommunikasjonsutfordringer og ulike oppfatninger av omsorg og barneoppdragelse. Problemstillingen er diskutert i lys av disse funnene knyttet opp mot teori som omhandler kulturrelativisme, etnosentrisme, kulturforskjeller, kulturkompetanse og kultursensitivitet. Det kan være av betydning at barnevernsarbeideren har kulturkompetanse og er kultursensitiv i møte med familiene, uavhengig av familiens bakgrunn. Samlet sett prøver oppgaven å belyse sentrale utfordringer og mulige løsninger knyttet til samspillet mellom disse partene.

This assignment is based on some key challenges related to the cultural understanding that multicultural families can experience facing the Norwegian child welfare services. Literature studies is the method used in this assignment. The data is obtained through existing theory and research, to enlighten the stated problem. Norway has become a more diverse country, and based on previous research, it comes to light that families with a multicultural background experience more challenges in meeting the Norwegian child welfare services. These challenges are comprised of multiple categories related to fear, mistrust, communication issues, as well as different perceptions of childcare and upbringing. The issue is discussed against the theory related to cultural relativism, ethnocentrism, cultural differences, cultural competence and cultural sensitivity. It may be of importance that the child welfare employee has cultural competence and has cultural sensitivity when meeting the families, regardless of family’s background. In conclusion, the issue at hand is trying to enlighten the central challenges and discuss possible solutions linked to the interactions between these parties.
