CityPop - Et estetisk seilas

Abstract

Denne oppgaven dykker ned i historien, samfunnsrollen, og estetikken til CityPop. Den forsøker å besvare hvorfor man finner Amerikansk 50- og 60-talls estetikk i sjangeren. Jeg følger japansk musikkhistorie fra Meiji-perioden, gjennom Popular Song-epoken, og lander i Okkupasjonstiden for å finne svaret på tilstedeværelsen av den nevnte estetikken.

This thesis attempts to dive deep into the history, the societal role, and the aesthetics of CityPop. It attempts to answer why we find American aesthetics from 50s and 60s in the genre. I follow Japanese music history from the Meiji-era, through the Popular Song-era, and end up in the Occupational Period to find the answer to why there’s such aesthetics present in the genre.
