"Hvis ansiktet er skittent, ikke vask speilet" - Litterære koblinger mellom raplyrikk, romantikken og realismen, i lys av rapperen Yasin

Abstract

Med utgangspunkt i læreplan og kompetansemål har jeg i denne masteroppgaven undersøkt hvordan elevers tekstkultur og samtidstekster kan knyttes til den nasjonale kulturarven, gjennom å bruke de nyere tekstene som inngang til litteratur fra andre litteraturhistoriske epoker. Mitt fokus er sjangeren rap og raplyrikk og jeg har fokusert på den svenske rapperen Yasin og to ulike perioder i Yasins diskografi. Målet mitt har vært å knytte Yasins tekster til sentrale trekk i raplyrikken og samtidig vise at tematikken i hans katalog har flere likhetstrekk med tematikker man finner igjen i realistiske og naturalistiske tekster. Jeg har derfor fokusert på sjangertrekk, både når det gjelder fortellerteknikker og tematiske elementer, som går igjen i både romantisk og realistisk litteratur og i rapmusikk fra vår samtid.

Med utgangspunkt i en den komparative litteratur diskusjonen og tekstanalysen av Yasin har oppgavens avsluttende del reflektert omkring det didaktiske potensialet som ligger i å bruke elevnær samtidslitteratur, som raplyrikk, i undervisningen som en inngang til andre typer tekster med tematiske og stilistiske likhetstrekk. Oppgaven viser at disse likhetene eksisterer og presenterer et stort potensial i norskundervisningen. En komparativ litteraturdidaktisk tilnærming kan være én måte å bearbeide den udefinerte sammenhengen mellom kulturhistorie og samtidslitteratur. Tilnærmingen tilbyr elevene en vei inn i litteraturhistorie og nye kontekster ved å bruke deres egen nåtidsforståelse og samtidslitteratur. Elever konsumerer litteratur på en annen måte enn før. Dette betyr ikke at vi må droppe de klassiske bøkene, men vi må tilpasse undervisningen og utnytte de nye måtene litteratur blir presentert på.

In this master's thesis I have investigated how students' textual culture and contemporary texts can be linked to literary text from our national cultural heritage, by using the newer texts as an introduction to literature from other periods of literary history. My focus is the genre of rap and raplyrics and its educational possibilities, and I have focused on the Swedish rapper Yasin and two different time periods in Yasin's discography. I have aimed to link Yasin's texts to central features of raplyrics and at the same time show that the themes in his lyrics display clear similarities to themes and stylistic features found in texts from earlier literary periods. I have focused on genre features, both in terms of storytelling techniques and thematic elements, which are found in both romantic and realistic literature and in raplyrics of our time.

Based on the comparative literature discussion and text analysis of Yasins raplyrics, the final part of the thesis has reflected on the didactic potential of using contemporary literature that students are familiar with, such as rap lyrics, as an introduction to teaching other types of texts with thematic and stylistic similarities. The thesis demonstrates that these similarities exist and present a great potential in teaching literature from unfamiliar historical contexts. A comparative didactic approach to literature offers students a way into literary history and new contexts, by using their own knowledge of the present and contemporary literature. Students consume literature in a different way than before. This does not mean that we have to drop the classic books, but we have to adapt and make use of the new ways in which literature is presented. With this master's thesis, I argue that a comparative literary didactic approach offers one way of processing the somewhat undefined connection between cultural history and contemporary literature.
