Digitalisering og Digital Transformasjon i Standardiseringsindustrien

Abstract

Igjennom en årrekke har standardisering sørget for å drive innovasjon i- og akselerasjon av verdens utvikling. I nyere tid har en ny akselerator vist seg, digitalisering og digital transformasjon. Digitalisering og digital transformasjon har resultert i at organisasjoner har økt bruken av digitale verktøy og prosesser, som har sørget for effektivisering, automatisering, økt kvalitet og muligheten til å skape fundamentalt nye forretningsmodeller. Som følger av samfunnsnytten standardisering har vist, og mulighetene digitalisering og digital transformasjon har vist, har denne oppgaven som formål å observere mulighetsrommet for digitalisering og digital transformasjon i standardiseringsindustrien. For å kunne besvare denne problemstillingen er tre forskningsspørsmål identifisert: • Hvordan er standarders livssyklus? • Hva kreves i en digitalisering? • Hva kreves i en digital transformasjon? For å kunne besvare forskningsspørsmålene er to metoder benyttet, litteraturstudie og intervjuer med aktører innen standardisering, digitalisering, og digital transformasjon. Studien har vist at flere aktører i standardiseringsindustrien observerer et behov for digitalisering i industrien, med formål om å effektivisere standardiseringsprosessen, samt å bedre deltakernes tilværelse. Videre har studien og vist at det i dag pågår digitaliseringsprosjekter i industrien i dag, der maskinlesbare standarder anses som en verdifull mulighet. Fra intervjuene innen digitalisering og digital transformasjon, samt i litteraturen, har en rekke goder, problemstillinger og løsninger på problemstillingene blitt identifisert og presentert. Dette med formål å kunne benytte oppgaven i et mulig fremtidig prosjekt, der teorien testes i praksis. Studien har kartlagt to kritiske faktorer i digitalisering og digital transformasjon, involvering av interessenter og god kommunikasjon. Videre har studien og innhentet informasjon om hvordan å gå frem i digitalisering og digital transformasjon, hvilke prosesser som vanligvis berøres, og knyttet det mot dagens praksis i standardiseringsindustrien. Konklusjonen på studien viser til at det er gode muligheter for digitalisering og digital transformasjon i standardiseringsindustrien, der det er store muligheter for effektivisering, samt å skape løsninger som har mulighet å øke kvaliteten på standarder.

Throughout many years, standardization has been a driver for innovation and acceleration in the developing of our society. In more recent times, a new accelerating factor has come to light, digitalization and digital transformation. Digitalization and digital transformation have had an influence that has resulted in companies utilizing digital tools and processes, which in turn has increased efficiency, enabled automation, increased quality and the possibilities for fundamentally new business models. Due to the societal benefits standardization has shown, and the possibilities digitalization and digital transformation have shown, this thesis has as a purpose to analyze the room of opportunity for utilizing digitalization and digital transformation in the standardization industry. To be able to analyze whether or not digitalization and digital transformation has opportunities in the standardization industry, three research questions have been put forth. • What’s the lifecycle of a standard? • What’s required in a digitalization? • What’s required in a digital transformation? To be able to answer the research questions, to methods have been utilized, a literature study as well as interviews with actors in standardization, digitalization and digital transformation. The study has shown that several actors in the interview group on standardization recognize a need for digitalization in this industry. This is needed to increase efficiency, quality and to better the experience of drafting standards. Furthermore, the study has shown that there are ongoing digitalization projects in the sector. Projects to create machine readable standards, which is believed to be of great benefit. From the interviews about digitalization and digital transformation, in addition to the literature, several gains, problems and solutions to said problems have been identified and presented. This, with a purpose for future use in a potential project where the thesis’ results will be used in practice. The study has found two critical factors, the involvement of stakeholders in addition to communicating well. Furthermore, the study has presented the steps in digitalization projects in addition to in digital transformations and analyzed it with a perspective oriented from the results of the standardization interviews and literature. The conclusion is that there are great possibilities for digitalization and digital transformation in the standardization industry, with great opportunities to increase efficiency, the quality of standards, and better the experience for subject matter experts in standardization.
