Abstract
CMOS image sensors play an important role in the future of autonomous driving. In conditions with high temperature and low lighting, the performance of these sensors is decreased as more noise is added to the images produced by the sensor. In a preliminary feasibility study, an attempt was made to model the different noise sources which affect image quality. These models have taken into consideration different parameters like temperature, lighting, and exposure time where they are relevant. The feasibility study concluded with a suggested layout for an RTL-implementation of these models into a emulation of a CMOS image sensor. In this master thesis, such an RTL-model has been implemented in Verilog. The RTL-model mainly consists of three submodules that compute samples from different probability distributions to model noise. Combining these submodules into an emulation system have led to a partially successful results which are limited inits practical use cases. Weaknesses and shortcomings have been analyzed and proposed solutionscan be addressed for the emulation system to be more successful.
