Enslige mindreårige flyktningers erfaringer med å delta i en frivillig vennefamilie-ordning

Abstract

Denne oppgaven er en kvalitativ studie som handler om enslige mindreårige flyktningers erfaringer med å delta i en frivillig vennefamilie-ordning. Ungdommene har ulike innvandrerbakgrunn men felles omstendighet- de flyktet til Norge med håpet på å få nye muligheter og en lysere fremtid. I intervjuene med informantene, delte de med meg om at de har et ønske om å integrere seg i det norske samfunnet, hvor de kan fort lære seg det norske språket, fortsette utdanningene sine og eventuelt skaffe seg en bra arbeidsmulighet. Denne masteroppgaven baserer seg på de ulike opplevelsene og erfaringene ungdommene har fått gjennom å delta i Røde Kors sin vennefamilie-ordning, som har som formål å hjelpe enslige mindreårige flyktningeungdommer med å få nettverk, utvikle språkferdigheter, samtidig skape følelsen av trygghet og tilhørighet i det norske samfunnet- dette skal beskrives mer grundig i oppgaven.

Denne studien gir innblikk og bedre forståelse for ungdommenes følelser og erfaringer rundt tematikken, og en bedre forståelse av hvordan de kobler deltakelsene i en frivillig vennefamilie- ordning med å integrere seg bedre i det norske samfunnet. For å besvare problemstillingene i oppgaven har jeg benyttet kvalitativ metode gjennom en intervjuprosess med 7 frivillige deltakere i vennefamilie- ordningen. Intervjuprosessen har foregått i perioden april 2021 til juli 2021.

Noen sentrale funn i forskningen går ut på enslige mindreårige flyktningenes refleksjoner rundt hvilken rolle vennefamilie- ordningen har spilt i å skape følelsen av trygghet og tilhørighet; viktigheten av de ulike aktivitetene vennefamiliene gjør sammen med ungdommene og ikke minst; hvilken rolle vennefamiliene har spilt i å hjelpe ungdommene med utvikling av deres norskkunnskaper og språklæring.

This Master thesis examines the experiences of unaccompanied minor refugees’ experiences of participating in a voluntary friends- family scheme (vennefamilie- ordning). I personally chose to focus on this topic because of two main reasons. The first one being that I always had a desire in writing a master thesis that reflects on the topic of refugee integration and the idea of fostering a new sense of belonging in a new society such as the Norwegian society. In this aspect, unaccompanied minor refugees who have fled from their homelands and other places to settle down and start a new life in Norway have always been my central focus. Most minor refugees usually go through difficult times and experiences to get to their destination places, while they also have the desires of creating a better future for their lives. The second reason to why I chose the topic of the experiences of unaccompanied minor refugees’ experiences of participating in a voluntary friends- family scheme (vennefamilie- ordning), is because I found it to be an excellent opportunity to reflect on how the participants (unaccompanied minor refugees) understand and reflect on the idea of friends- family scheme as an initial opportunity for an important step of assimilating in the Norwegian society. There were also only a few previous researches that focused on this topic, which made it exciting, challenging as well as motivating for me to provide a critical insight into understandings of the experiences of unaccompanied minor refugees’ participating in a voluntary friends- family scheme (vennefamilie- ordning).

For my analytical studies and reflections, I demonstrated a qualitative research through an interview process with 7 voluntary participants of the friends- family scheme. This is of course with the aspiration of providing a successful outcome of the research topic. The ideas, experiences and reflections of unaccompanied minor refugees who are a part of the friends-family scheme, are presented as the main research core of this master thesis. The conclusion of this master thesis is provided and built through the studies and reflections of the informants’ experiences and perceptions of their participations. The interview process has taken place in the period between April 2021 and July 2021.

Some key findings in the research are based on unaccompanied minor refugees 'reflections on the role that the friends-family scheme has played in creating a sense of security and belonging to them, the importance of the various activities they do together and last but not least; which role the friends- families have played in helping the unaccompanied minor refugees with the development of their Norwegian language learning process and communication skills.
