Moderne lovsangsmusikk og Hillsong: Globale og lokale perspektiver i Norge

Abstract

Denne oppgaven tar for seg moderne lovsangsmusikk og en definering av hva moderne lovsangsmusikk er, samt hva det ikke er, gjennom litteraturstudie og bruk av en selvreflekterende autoetnografisk stemme. Oppgaven går inn på moderne lovsangsmusikk sin historie og utvikling fra dens begynnelse på 1960-tallet frem til i dag, og sammenlignes med Contemporary Christian Musics utvikling. For å forsøke å forstå moderne lovsangsmusikk som sjanger bedre, tar oppgaven for seg et case study av Hillsongs utvikling og stil, og måten globalisering og glokalisering har påvirket Hillsong til å bli det verdensomspennende brandet det er i dag. Oppgaven ser også på hvordan Hillsong har påvirket moderne lovsangsmusikk i Norge og Skandinavia, hvor jeg som forfatter av oppgaven deler mine erfaringer som deltaker i lovsangskulturen. Til slutt anbefales det å fortsette å utforske hva moderne lovsangsmusikk er i Norge, på grunn av den knappe musikkvitenskapelige forskningen på sjangeren.

This thesis deals with modern worship music and a definition of what modern worship music is, as well as what it is not, through literature study and the use of a self-reflective autoethnographic voice. The thesis deals with the history and development of modern worship music from its beginning in the 1960's until today, and compares it with the development of Contemporary Christian Music. To try to understand modern worship music as a genre better, the thesis deals with a case study of Hillsong's development and style, and the way globalization and glocalization have influenced Hillsong to become the worldwide brand it is today. The thesis also looks at how Hillsong has influenced modern worship music in Norway and Scandinavia, where I as the author of the thesis share my experiences as a participant in the culture surrounding the genre. Finally, it is recommendation for there to be a continued investigation of what modern worship music is in Norway, due to the scarcity of musicological research on the genre.
