Sosialarbeideren i skolen - En "underdog"?

Abstract

Sosialarbeideren i skolen er et tema som først de siste 10-20 årene har fått større oppmerksomhet. Skolen har tradisjonelt alltid vært lærerens arena, men tidene endrer seg og det vokser frem nye behov blant barn og unge. I denne oppgaven samler jeg gjennom mitt litteraturstudium relevant teori om temaet i et forsøk på å se hvordan skolen i dag skaper rom for sosialarbeideren. Den første problemstillingen; «Hva kan være sosialarbeiderens rolle i skolen?», tar sikte på å finne ut hvordan den sosialfaglige kompetansen brukes i skolen i dag. I den andre problemstillingen; «Hvordan påvirker den manglende lovfestingen sosialarbeiderens rolle i skolen?», drøftes sosialarbeiderens rolle i lys av skolens og velferdssamfunnets innvirkning på rollen. Oppgaven utforsker et tema det til dags dato er noe lite forskning på, men som det er viktig at vi ser nærmere på.

Funnene er i all hovedsak fra rapporter og vitenskapelige artikler. Funnene peker på en varierende og uklar benyttelse av den sosialfaglige ressursen. Det er likevel tydelig at den sosialfaglige kompetansen er en ønsket ressurs i flere skoler. Den manglende lovfestingen blir oppfattet som å bidra til både godt og vondt. Mens det på den ene siden gir mer frihet, bringer den også med seg usikkerhet. Sosialarbeiderens rolle i skolen er verken beskyttet eller likestilt med andre høyere utdannede. Oppgaven viser at vi burde gjøre noen konkrete vurderinger i hvordan vi vil arbeide for sosialarbeiderens plass i skolen, i dag står posisjonen uavklart med muligheter for stor lokal variasjon.

The social worker in school is a topic that the last 10-20 years have received greater attention. The school is traditionally the teachers’ arena, but times are changing and new needs are emerging amongst children and young adults. In this assignment I will collect relevant information about the topic in a literature review to try to get some insight into how schools make room for the social workers. The first research question I am going to investigate; “What can be the role of a social worker in school?”, aims to find out how the social expertise is used in schools today. In the second research question; “How does the lack of legislation affect the role of the social worker in school?”, the role of the social worker is discussed in the light of the school's and the welfare society's impact on the role. This assignment explores a topic that to date there is little research on, but which it is important that we look further into.

The findings are mainly from reports and scientific articles. The findings point to a varying and unclear use of the social science resource. It is nevertheless clear that the social science competence is a desired resource in several schools. The lack of legislation is perceived as contributing to both good and evil. While on the one hand it gives more freedom, it also brings insecurity. The role of the social worker in school is neither protected nor equated with other higher educated positions. The assignment shows that we should make some concrete assessments in how we will work for the social worker's place in the school, today the position is unclear with opportunities for great local variation.
