The energy assurance and supply of electricity are significant factors for outspread and progress of all countries around the world. Low investment costs and emission besides high output efficiency of power plants are common parameters for all governments. All countries put great efforts into raising power plants output efficiency and declining resulted environmental pollutants and therefore diverse criteria have been defined in assessment of power plants. This study intents to determine and prove the compatibility of existing power plants in Iran through employing real data in Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Analysis (MCDA). Apart from evaluating several aspects of power plants distinctly, a multi criteria analysis is necessary based on Multi-Criteria Decision-Making algorithm, here VIKOR method, which is applied through MATLAB software specifying which power plants are suitable for establishment in the future. The power plants (alternatives) are by different types as well as natural gas, wind, combined cycle, hydropower, and CHP plants. By applying VIKOR technique, a multi-criteria evaluation of five various power plants were carried out with respect to environmental, technological, and economic criteria to find the optimum selected case among those alternatives.
