In this thesis, a sociolinguistic analysis of the bilingual TV series Vida has been carried out. The main focus is on the phenomena code switching and chicano/Mexican vocabulary used in the series. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to explain the degree of these two linguistic aspects that one can find in Vida, and thus explore why the language is such a big part of the new Chicano identity that has been more and more visual the past 40 years. The theoretical framework was primarily based on the work of sociolinguist Francisco Moreno-Fernández, and also on scholars who have researched Spanglish in the United States.
