Abstract

Denne oppgaven fokuserer på boken Borderlands / La Frontera: The New Mestiza, som tilhører chicano-litteraturen. Målet med oppgaven var å forstå hvordan Gloria Anzaldúa har presentert sin identitet som chicana-kvinne i boken, og hvordan hun har presentert chicano-kulturen. I tillegg, avdekke hvordan presset fra hennes egen kultur og undertrykkelsen fra andre kulturer har påvirket hennes identitet. Sammenhengen mellom språket og identiteten har vært viktig i oppgaven. For å gi leserene en grunnleggende forståelse av emnet, ble det gitt en beskrivelse av den sosialhistoriske konteksten fra den litterære perioden boken ble utgitt i. Viktigheten av boken i verden og for pedagogiske formål ble også diskutert. Analysen ble utført ved å lese den respektive boken, og ved å bruke støttelitteratur som tar for seg emner som språk, identitet, historien til chicanos og intervjuer med forfatteren.

Det ble oppfattet at Anzaldúa har en hybrid identitet, som hun demonstrerer på ulike måter gjennom en bevisst språkbruk. Det ble fastslått at det finnes en sammenheng mellom hennes identitet og holdningene som finnes mot kulturen og variantene av chicano-språket.

This thesis focuses on the book Borderlands / La Frontera: The New Mestiza, which is located in Chicano literature. The goal of the thesis was to understand how Gloria Anzaldúa has presented her identity as a Chicana woman in the book, and how she has presented the Chicano culture. In addition, discover how the pressure of her own culture and oppression from other cultures has affected her identity. The connection between language and identity has been important in the thesis. To give readers a basic understanding of the subject, a description of the social-historical context of the literary period in which the book was published was provided. The importance of the book in the world and for educational purposes was also discussed. The analysis was carried out by reading the respective book and using supporting literatures that address topics such as language, identity, the history of Chicanos, and interviews with the author.

It was perceived that Anzaldúa has a hybrid identity, which she demonstrates in various ways through the conscious use of language. It was established that there is a connection between her identity and the attitudes that exist towards the culture and varieties of Chicano Spanish.
