Fremtidens "Operational Excellence".

Abstract

Sammendrag Utarbeidelsen av denne bacheloroppgaven er gjort som praksiskandidat hos Saga Fjordbase, gjennom NTNU-studiet Shipping Management. Oppgavens tema er samlokaliseringen avdelingen Operasjoner har iverksatt, og det er dette som er utgangspunktet for oppgaven. Oppgavens problemstilling: Hvilke effekter man oppnår av å samlokalisere avdelingen Operasjoner, på en felles lokasjon. Forskningsspørsmålene går mer spesifikt inn på hvilke områder av virksomheten som blir mest berørt av samlokaliseringen.

For å besvare oppgavens problemstilling og forskningsspørsmål er det benyttet kvalitative metoder, dette for å kunne gjennomføre dybdeintervju og foreta egne beregninger. Valget med å nytte kvalitative metoder er gjort på bakgrunn av at dette er best egnet for temaet, da det gir muligheten til å erverve mest mulig kunnskap om avdelingen og de ansatte. Den faglige teorien i oppgaven bygger på fagartikler, forskningsartikler og fagbøker om temaet. De funnene som er gjort, blir sammenlignet med fremlagt faglig teori samt tidligere beregninger gjort av Saga Fjordbase.

I besvarelsen av oppgaven presenteres funnene fra intervjuene tematisk i analysen, med korte kommentarer. Drøftingen baseres på funnene som presenteres i analysen, og temaene kategoriseres etter forskningsspørsmålene. Videre brukes det modeller og tabeller som forslag på hvordan nye strukturer kan se ut i fremtiden for Operasjoner. De beregningene som er utført, blir spesifisert med hvilke forutsetninger som ligger til grunn før de presenteres. Effektene og ringvirkningene denne samlokaliseringen medfører er komplekse og omfattende, og vil trolig påvirke andre avdelinger i Saga Fjordbase. Ut fra intervjuene kommer det frem svar som indikerer hvilken retning avdelingen har tenkt seg, samt hva de ønsker å oppnå med samlokaliseringen. Oppgaven gir i så måte noen spesifikke løsninger på den fremtidige teamstrukturen, og hvilke synergier som kan oppnås i avdelingen. Ettersom samlokaliseringen ikke var fullført før oppgavens innlevering, konkluderes det ikke med hva som er endelig resultat av team- og avdelingsstruktur. De innsamlede dataene og den faglige teorien som er fremlagt, har dannet grunnlaget for konklusjonen av oppgaven.

Abstract The preparation of this bachelor thesis has been done as an internship candidate at Saga Fjordbase, through the NTNU study Shipping Management. The topic of the thesis is the co-location the department Operations has implemented, and this is the starting point for the thesis. The problem of the thesis: What effects are achieved by co-locating the Operations department, in a common location. The research questions deal more specifically with which areas of the business are most affected by the co-location.

To answer the thesis' problem and research questions, qualitative methods have been used, in order to be able to conduct in-depth interviews and make own calculations. The choice to use qualitative methods is made on the basis that this is best suited to the topic, as it provides the opportunity to acquire as much knowledge as possible about the department and the employees. The academic theory in the thesis is based on professional articles, research articles and textbooks on the topic. The findings that have been made are compared with the presented professional theory and previous calculations made by Saga Fjordbase.

In answering the thesis, the findings from the interviews are presented thematically in the analysis, with short comments. The discussion is based on the findings presented in the analysis, and the topics are categorized according to the research questions. Furthermore, models and tables are used as suggestions for what new structures may look like in the future of Operations. The calculations that have been made are specified on the basis of the assumptions before they are presented. The effects and ripple effects this co-location entails are complex and extensive and will probably affect other departments in Saga Fjordbase. Based on the interviews, answers emerge that indicate which direction the department intends, as well as what they want to achieve with the co-location. The task thus provides some specific solutions to the future team structure, and what synergies can be achieved by the department. As the co-location was not completed before the submission of the thesis, it is not concluded with what is the final result of the team and department structure. The collected data and the professional theory that has been presented have formed the basis for the conclusion of the thesis.
