Noen av søkeordene var: quality of nursing care, nurse experience, time pressure and staffing.
H: Background: Former research and media coverage shows a correlation between staffing and time at hand, and that it affects quality of nursing care. This results in challenges for nurses all over the world, as in increased workload and limited resources. Every human being have basic needs, and it is the nurses’ responsibility to meet these needs individually with every patient. Aim: The aim of this assignment is to explore nurses’ experiences and perceptions of staffing and time relating to basic nursing care. Method: The method used is a literature review, including 9 articles, which is viewed in conjunction with subject material related to the theme. The articles are reviewed with critical appraisal. Both electronic and additional search strategies such as searching the reference lists in articles was used. The electronic databases used were Cinahl Complete and Ovid Nursing Database. Some of the keywords were: quality of nursing care, nurse experience, time pressure and staffing. Results: The results shows that nurses experience time pressure, understaffing and workload, and that it affects quality in a negative direction. Nurses often experience that understaffing and time pressure leads to not doing what they want and ought to do. However, quality is a difficult term and the measurement tools are many and varied. Conclusion: There are multiple factors, for example work environment, politics and economics that affect quality of basic nursing care, not only time pressure and staffing. Leaders should focus on resource allocation, however it isn’t the only thing improving quality.nb_NO
