- Nedbør - Helning i terreng - Øst koordinat - Bredde
Videre analyse av resultatene viser at sandfang:
- I grøft vil akkumulere mindre sedimenter.
Sediment dispatched with stormwater runoff is the most significant potential source of pollution in terms of mass. Sediment causes two main problems: (1) contamination of receiving waters; and (2) inefficiency in downstream sewer systems due to constriction of the pipe cross-section. Gully pots installed with a sand trap is a trivial infrastructure for retaining courser sediment in Norwegian urban drainage systems. Due to sedimentation, courser material is stored temporarily in a sludge space. If not emptied regularly, the build-up of sediment may cause increased sediment loads being flushed onto downstream systems \citep{lindholm2015forurensingstilforsler}.
By modelling the anticipated pollutant build up the sand trap can be emptied when reaching a desired threshold of accumulated sediments. Hence, providing a predictive maintenance which will reduce operation cost, sediment load to downstream systems and pollution to receiving waters. All of which are beneficial to Norwegian municipalities and the surrounding communities. The main objectives of the thesis are: (a) to assess to what extent physical variables are related to the build-up of sediments; and (b) predict the accumulation rate.
A python-based model is developed that evaluates influencing variables assembled from different sources. Two hundred forty-eight (248) sand traps are measured to address the accumulation rate. Thirteen additional categorical variables are gathered during field measurements to assess their significance.
Due to the lack of precise data there was a need to develop measurement equipment. The thesis proposes a standardized method for measuring the in-situ height of sediment bed level. The proposed method is developed for Horten municipality to improve data quality for their sand traps. The measurement procedure aims to highlight the two requirements manageable and expeditious so that it may be used upon sand trap maintenance.
A statistical model was built pre-measurement in order to classify the sand traps based on the expected accumulation rate. By measuring multiple sand traps from different classes this ensure a well distributed sampling population and provide the opportunity to ground conclusions for the total population of sand traps in the municipality of Horten compared to one or more zones that are measured.
The results from modelling show that the sand traps in the city center of Horten will accumulate the most sediments over the least amount of time. With exceptions such as the eastern part of Åsgårdstrand modelling show that the nearby cities will accumulate less sediments over the same time interval. The extent of the result include an independent evaluation of how much sediments are expected to accumulate over time for the majority of sand traps in the municipality. The evaluation of accumulation rate is done by identifying the most prevalent influencing factors for sediment load to be the following in descending order:
- Precipitation - Slope - Longitude - Width
Further analysis of the results show that sand traps:
- In a ditch will accumulate less sediments. - Next to a road curb will accumulate more sediments.
Variables that are found not to be significant for the accumulation rate include such as the installation of a stopper.
