Un pronom pas comme les autres - Une étude sur la fonction du pronom clitique « en » en français

Abstract

Sammendrag Denne masteroppgaven tar for seg pronomenet «en» i fransk språk. Målet med oppgaven er å analysere den syntaktiske rollen til «en» for med dette å skape et typologisk rammeverk som igjen bidra til å evaluere riktig bruk av «en» på en tydelig og pedagogisk måte. Analysen er av syntaktisk, semantisk og pragmatisk art.

Det er ofte utfordrende å forstå bruken av pronomenet «en» for nordmenn, for det finnes som regel ikke noe direkte motsvar i norsk. Vi har derfor foretatt en test av bruken av «en» blant norske franskstudenter ved NTNU for å finne ut på hvilke områder «en» virker mest utfordrende. I tillegg har vi tatt med norske oversettelser av franske setninger med «en» i deler av analysen vår for å se nærmere på relevante forskjeller mellom språkene.

Résumé Ce mémoire est une étude sur le pronom en en français. L’objectif de cette étude est d’analyser la distribution de en pour ainsi tenter de fournir des points de départs typologiques à partir de laquelle on puisse évaluer l’acceptabilité de la pronominalisation par en. L’analyse comporte des aspects syntaxiques, sémantiques et pragmatiques. L’emploi du pronom en est souvent diffus pour les apprenants norvégiens du français, car il n’y a pas d’équivalent à ce pronom en norvégien. Nous avons par conséquent fait un test sur l’usage de en parmi des étudiants de français à NTNU. De plus, dans notre analyse, nous avons également inclus des traductions en norvégien pour voir les différences qui sont intéressantes pour le domaine de en. La plupart des exemples du mémoire sont fabriqués. Il y a toutefois beaucoup d’exemples qui sont tirés de livres français ou de la base Frantext. Dans les cas où les exemples sont authentiques, ils sont toujours cités. Les trois grands usages de en sont tous inclus dans l’analyse : en quantitatif / partitif, en génitif et en complément verbal introduit par de.

Abstract This master’s thesis is an analysis of the French pronoun en. The objective of the thesis is to analyse the syntactic distribution of en in order to create a typological framework to determine the acceptability of en pronominalization in French. This includes scrutinizing en from a syntactic, semantic and pragmatic point of view. The pronoun en is often a challenging pronoun both to understand and to use in discourse for Norwegian learners of French, because there is no equivalent in Norwegian. We have therefore done a test on the use of en among Norwegian students of French at NTNU to discover in which areas the use of this pronoun seems to be the most challenging. Furthermore, we have also included Norwegian translations of phrases containing en in some of our analysis to underline the differences at play between the languages. Most of the examples in this thesis are fabricated. There are, however, a fair share of authentic examples found in French literature or in a French internet database called Frantext. The origin of the authentic examples are cited. The use of en comprises three main syntactic categories, replacing a constituent in a quantitative or partitive setting, replacing a prepositional complement of a noun phase or replacing a verbal complement introduced by the preposition de. All of these are included in the analysis.
