Contact with biological parents’ post-placement for children who have experienced neglect can in some cases be very stressful. Something that can come from the fact that the children in question are traumatized by the experiences they have had. The study will shed light on which assessments are important when the child welfare service is to make assessments for contact between children and biological parents, where the child is traumatized. The study shows that the topic is very complex, the decisions can affect the child´s mental and physical health here and now, as well have consequences for the child in a life course perspective. The content analysis in the study shows that there is reason to ask what will actually be the right practice in such cases? And what will really be in the best interest of the child? Based on this, such processes will offer a number of complex assessments of what should be given the greatest weight, as well as the topic´s ethical challenges. With knowledge from developmental psychology and trauma psychology, the purpose of the study is to show which assessments are important in this work, as well as to shed light on the ethical challenges the child welfare service faces in this type of decision-making process.
