Over the last decades, climate change has captured center stage on an international level and has been the topic of much political and social debate. You read about it on the news, the Norwegian school curriculum provides opportunities to bring the topic into the classroom and younger generations commitment to the topic is shown through global climate strikes. This master thesis examines young people´s knowledge of and attitudes towards climate change. The empirical basis of the project has been collected through qualitative interviews with a total of 11 informants from upper secondary schools in Haugesund municipality. The empirical data, together with relevant theory, provide a basis for answers to the three selected research questions: (1) What do students know about climate change and in what way do they feel the topic concerns them? (2) Where do students get information about climate change and how does it affect their views on the topic? (3) According to the students, who is responsible for climate change and how does it affect the students´ willingness to do changes in their own everyday lives? The research project shows that the informants recognize climate change as a problem and that the humans have influenced the process. Nevertheless, many are unsure whether climate change is affecting them and the extent to which they are willing to make changes in their own daily lives varies. This may be related to the understanding of connections between causes and consequences. The results show that the informants in the survey obtain information from a wide range of sources, both social media, online newspapers, school and social circles. The findings indicate that students in general studies have more knowledge about climate change at school than students in vocational studies.
