Konklusjon: Artiklene viser at foreldre hadde forskjellige opplevelser under sykehusoppholdet.
Background: When a child with cancer receives palliative care, the nurses must also take care of the parents. Parents who are with their child experience many challenges during their hospital stay, including suffering and grief. They need support, guidance and information from the nurses. Aim: To find out what nurses can do to care for parents with a child with cancer who is dying in the hospital. Method: This is a literature study where six articles were used to make a systematic analysis to find an answer to our problem. We used the databases medline and cinahl to conduct a systematic search to find relevant articles. Inclusion and exclusion criteria helped to limit the search that was performed. Results: The six articles provided a basis for our result which shows that there are some common denominators between the parents' experience. In addition, the articles gave an indication of what it is like for children and parents when the child dies in the hospital. Conclusion: The articles show that parents had different experiences during their hospital stay. Some felt taken care of, while others felt that they did not receive enough support. What they have in common is that they need information and guidance so they could be able to make good decisions and feel like they had control over the situation. Other factors that emerged in the articles are that the parents experience grief, suffering and loss. On the other hand, the parents experienced hope, which turns out to be essential in the palliative phase of the child. The nurse is a supporter who will help them through the course of the disease.
