I WHO sin rapport «Whats the evidence on the role of the arts improving health and well-being?» synliggjøres kunstens rolle i å virke helsefremmende og øke livskvaliteten til mennesker (Fancourt og Saoirse, 2019).
Background The City Council in Oslo wants Oslo to be a diverse cultural city, and in 2016 «Plan for street art in Oslo 2016-2020» was adopted. The plan will strengthen and facilitate street art in Oslo's public spaces and where people live (Oslo kommune, 2016). For a long time, research has been done on the effect of art on our health. WHO's report “Whats the evidence on the role of the arts improving health and well-being?” highlights the role of art in promoting health and improving the quality of life of people (Fancourt og Saoirse, 2019). In the health promotion work, the starting point is the factors that can strengthen resources for good health, rather than focusing on illness and risk factors (Mæland, 2016). Purpose The purpose of the study is to elucidate and develop knowledge about the health-promoting effect of street art, the effect it can have on street artists and in local communities. The purpose of the study is to increase knowledge of the field, which may be a basis for further development of health-promoting communities, at the individual and system level. The street artists' own experiences can contribute to increase awareness among the professionals who work with health promotion and the authorities about what is important, which in turn can contribute to the further development of health-promoting communities with art as a tool. Methods I have conducted 6 qualitative interviews with people aged 30-45 who practice street art and have their art represented in the city space in Oslo. I have used go-along in combination with semi-structured interview form. All interviews were conducted outdoors in Oslo. Phenomenological condensation has been used in the analysis of the collected data. Results The main findings and interpretations seem to indicate that there are three areas in particular that are important for street art, relationship, communication and motivation. Conclusion The practice of street art can to a great extent be seen as health promoting for the street artists as individuals. Street art can play a major role in promoting health in local communities. At the same time, it may be that the art will not have a health promoting effect on anyone other than the people who are interested in street art and art in general. Keywords street art, health promotion, local communities, salutogenesis
