Drivstoffbesparelser bleberegnet ved ̊a trekke drivstoff forbruket n ̊ar skipet bruker b ̊ade wingsail ifra drivstofforbruketn ̊ar skipet bare bruker diesel motor. Beregningene viser at 1,6% drivstoffbesparelser var muligunder forholdene p ̊a ruten mellom Grislehamn-Ecker ̈o. Resultatene varierte ifra 8,4% i april til0,1% i mai. Videre undersøkelser om værstatistikk for drivstoff besparelser er nødvendige. Wind assisted propulsion technology have become more relevant after the discovery of fossilfuels impact on the environment. Rising fuel and CO2 tax is making fuel saving technologiessuch as wingsail more profitable. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how wingsail canbe implemented and estimate a reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emission. This thesisuses a ROPAX ferry with route Grislehamn-Ecker ̈o. Using momentum theorem, the wingsailforward drive force was calculated by using the monthly dominant wind direction and averagewind speed fuel savings was calculated by subtracting the total energy used with wingsail fromthe total diesel consumption without wingsail . The calculation show that under the conditionson the route Grislehamn-Ecker ̈o was a 1.6% fuel saving possible. The results varied from 8.4%in April to 0,1% in may. Wind direction was the most determining factor for the low fuel savingsthroughout the year. Calculations using more frequent wind data could get higher fuel savings.Further research on weather statistic for fuel calculation is necessary.
