Abstract

Hollywood filmen Crazy Rich Asians (2018) er en filmatisert adaptasjon av novellen ved samme tittel (2013), skrevet av Kevin Kwan. Denne oppgaven tar for seg en analyse av hvordan musikken som er presentert i Hollywood adaptasjonen framhever viktig tematikk fra novellen, som blant annet kulturell hjemløshet og kulturelt mangfold, samt hvordan dette blir kommunisert til publikum via musikken. Det er et overordnet fokus på hvordan musikk som et generelt medium, samt spesifikke eksempler fra filmen har evnen til å påvirke den emosjonelle responsen og den helhetlige opplevelsen til publikum når de ser filmen.

The Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians (2018) is an adaptation of the novel (2013) written by Kevin Kwan with the same title. This paper analyses how the music presented in the soundtrack of the 2018 adaptation accentuates important themes from the novel, such as cultural homelessness and a blending of cultures, in addition to how this is presented to the audience through the music. There is an overall focus on how music in general and the specific examples from the soundtrack may influence the audience`s experience and emotional response when watching the film.
