Abstract

Sammendrag I denne oppgaven undersøker jeg hvordan integrering forstås av en fotballklubb som er opptatt av inkludering, og hvordan fotballdeltakelse kan bidra til integrering av unge menn med innvandrerbakgrunn. Det empiriske grunnlaget for oppgaven er hentet inn gjennom feltarbeid hos klubbens gutte-juniorlag. Jeg har gjennomført ti deltakende observasjoner, der jeg har vært på treningene som spiller. Jeg har også gjort fem dybdeintervjuer med to trenere og tre spillere. I tillegg har jeg brukt klubbens sportsplan som en del av datamaterialet. I analysene av datamaterialet har jeg anvendt tematisk analyse og fortolkende kulturanalyse, og jeg presenterer oppgavens funn gjennom tre kapitler.

I kapittel 4 Klubben – hvordan forstås inkludering gir jeg en analyse av klubbens sportsplan og sitater fra hovedtreneren for å vise hvilke aspekter klubben vektlegger som viktige i sitt inkluderingsarbeid. I analysen fremkommer det at klubben anser trygge rammer, foreldreengasjement som viktige for å legge til rette for et inkluderende miljø. Økonomiske utfordringer trekkes frem som en viktig grunn til frafall. Avslutningsvis viser jeg hvordan klubbens inkluderingsarbeid kan sees i sammenheng med forståelser av integrering.

I kapittel 5 Trenerrollen – Jeg er glad i dere gutta utforsker jeg hvordan hovedtrenerens trenerstil har betydning for integrasjon. I dette kapittelet analyseres ulike uttrykksformer av maskulinitet i henhold til integrering og det jeg omtaler som et dannelsesprosjekt.

I kapittel 6 Spillerne – du favoriserer bare førstelaget presenteres funnene fra spillerintervjuene, der jeg sammenligner spillernes tanker og erfaringer fra å spille på dette laget. To av spillerne har innvandrerbakgrunn, men alle har til felles at de har erfaringer om å være ny klubben.

Abstract This thesis examines how integration is understood by a football club that focuses on the inclusion of its players, as well as how participation in football may be a contributing factor in the integration of young men with an immigrant background. The empirical foundation for the thesis was gathered through fieldwork and in-depth interviews with the players on the club’s junior team. Ten participatory observations were conducted, where I participated as a player. Five in-depth interviews were conducted with two coaches and three players. The team’s sports plan was also used as part of the data. Thematic analysis and interpretive cultural analysis were applied to analyze the data. The study findings are presented in three chapters.

In chapter 4 I present an analysis of the club’s sports plan as well as quotes from the main coach, to highlight aspects that the club sees as important to their work on inclusion. The analysis shows that a safe environment and parental involvement are important factors in facilitating an inclusive environment. Financial challenges are highlighted as a main reason for dropout. The end of the chapter focuses on how the club’s inclusion work can be seen in conjunction with understandings of integration.

In chapter 5 I examine how the main coach’s coaching style impacts integration of the team players. Different forms of expressing masculinity are analyzed, in light of integration and what I have called a formation project. In chapter 6 the findings from the in-depth interviews are presented, comparing the thoughts and experiences from the players on the team.
