| dc.description.abstract | I denne masteroppgaven undersøker jeg hva menn med innvandrerbakgrunn forteller om i forbindelse med deres egne karrierer i norsk organisert fotball. Det empiriske grunnlaget i oppgaven er syv dybdeintervjuer med menn som har migrert til Norge fra Tyrkia, Irak, Vietnam, Liberia, Etiopia og Bosnia. Datamaterialet fra disse syv intervjuene presenteres gjennom fire analysekapitler, der jeg bruker tematisk og narrativ analyse som analysegrep.
Det første analysekapitlene undersøker jeg informantenes positive opplevelser ved det å delta i organisert fotball etter at de kom til Norge. Forskningsspørsmålet jeg stilte i denne delen av oppgaven var «Hva forteller menn med innvandrerbakgrunn om den integrerende og inkluderende effekten av deltakelse i organisert fotball?». Her presenteres fortellinger som er med på å underbygge forståelsen av at idretten som samfunnsaktør gjør en viktig og relevant jobb for personer med innvandrerbakgrunn. I disse fortellingene står idretten frem som en viktig arena både for inkludering og integrering, noe som har bidratt til at flere av informantene følte seg integrert i samfunnet gjennom idretten. Videre i analysekapitlene fokuseres det på informantenes fortellinger om utfordringer og barrierer de har møtt på i løpet av sin tid som utøver i norsk organisert fotball. Det er ifølge fortellingene tydelig, på tross av mange positive fortellinger, at den organiserte idretten har store rom for forbedringer.
I analysekapittel to er det fortellingene om økonomiske barrierer og viktigheten av inkluderende enkeltpersoner i lokalsamfunnet som analyseres. I norsk idrett finnes det en rekke tiltak for at økonomi ikke skal være en hindring for deltakelse i idretten, men ifølge fortellingene har informantene likevel møtt på flere økonomiske utfordringer i idretten. Økonomiske barrierer og ugunstige materielle betingelser ble enklere å forholde seg til når inkluderende enkeltpersoner i lokalmiljøet bidro.
I det tredje analysekapitlet er det fortellinger om foreldrenes deltakelse underveis i informantenes karrierer som skal presenteres og analyseres. Ofte er foreldre med innvandrerbakgrunn stereotypisk fremstilt, både i og utenfor idretten. De blir i noen tilfeller presentert som «late», «snyltende» og «passive». Mine funn i denne delen av oppgaven viser at man burde se bort i fra disse stereotypiske fremstillingene av foreldre med innvandrerbakgrunn, og heller legge til rette kommunikasjon og kunnskapsutveksling .
I fjerde og siste analysekapittel spør jeg om fortellinger om rasisme. Selv om idretten utad har det som betegnes som «nulltoleranse» mot rasisme er det ifølge fortellingene tydelig at rasisme-hendelser har vært en blindsone i norsk organisert fotball. Informantene beretter om individuell rasisme, institusjonell rasisme og en høy terskel for å rapportere inn hendelser. | |
| dc.description.abstract | In this master's thesis, I investigate what men with immigrant backgrounds can tell us about their own experiences in Norwegian organized football. The empirical basis of the thesis is seven in-depth interviews with men who have migrated to Norway from Turkey, Iraq, Vietnam, Liberia, Ethiopia and Bosnia. The data material from these seven interviews are presented through four chapters of analysis, where I use thematic and narrative analysis as analytical framework.
The first analysis chapter examine the informants' positive experiences of participating in organized football after their arrival to Norway. The research question I asked them in this part of the thesis was "What does men with an immigrant background say about the integrative and inclusive effect of participation in organized football?". The stories they presented, substantiates the understanding of sport as a social actor, and how it plays an important and central role in the lives of people with an immigrant background. Participation in sports stands out as an important arena for both inclusion and integration, which contribute to the fact that the informants felt integrated in society. Furthermore, the analysis chapters focus on the informants' stories about challenges and barriers they have encountered during their time as athletes in Norwegian organized football. The narratives show us that despite many positive stories, organized sports has much room for improvement.
In the second analysis chapter, narratives about financial barriers and the importance of initiating and including people in the local community are analyzed. In Norwegian sports, many measures are taken with the purpose to ensure that financial differences isn’t an obstacle for participation in sports. According to the stories, the informants have nevertheless encountered several financial challenges in sports. Financial barriers and unfavorable material conditions became easier to deal with when inclusive individuals in the local community contributed.
In the third analysis chapter, stories about their parents’ 'participation during the informants' careers are to be presented and analyzed. Parents with an immigrant background are often stereotypically portrayed, both in and out of sports. In some cases, they are presented as "lazy", "parasitic" and "passive". My analysis shows that one should disregard these stereotypical representations of parents with immigrant background, and rather facilitate communication and exchange of knowledge.
In the fourth and final analysis chapter, I ask them to tell stories about racism. Even though external sports have what is described as "zero tolerance" against racism, we learn from the stories that racist incidents have been a "blind zone" in Norwegian organized football. The informants report individual racism, institutional racism and a high threshold for reporting the incidents. | |
