The assignment analyzes the environmental impact of a distribution network. One analysis analyzes the type of mast one should use to get the line tension that contains the lowest environmental impact. In addition, the assignment addresses the environmental impact of all the processes needed to complete a high voltage mast adapted for 132kV. Nevertheless, the assignment explains the line stretch that is built on the flat ground in Gausdal. This should be viewed in relation to different methods for environmental impact. To determine the total environmental impact there are different factors that needs to be examined. The development processes need to be inspected, service life and number of mast points at the various masts are a few of these factors. Life cycle analysis (LCA) is the method used for the analysis. LCA is about creating an overall illustration of the total environmental impact of the entire life cycle of a product. The materials the masts are made of that are evaluated using LCA are aluminum, steel, creosote impregnated wood, polyurethane and polyester and fiberglass. The technology is always evolving, which can result in that the production of mast may change. This also include the methods of extraction, manufacture, transport and waste treatment. Environmental solutions may not be as environmentally friendly as one thought due to this change. The LCA show that the environmental impact of the studied pylons occurs at different locations during their life cycle. In addition, they stand out according to what material the environmental impact category is studied. A large part of the total environmental impact of the masts comes from is the extraction and the production of raw materials. However, the leakage of metals and organic contaminants during the use phase and how the bars are handling the end of their service life has a major impact on the result. According to human health and global warming potential the steel mast has the highest environmental impact. Additionally, it has the second most impact in the categories of ecosystem and resource destruction. Polyurethane mast has the least environmental impact of all the categories. Human health and ecosystem states that aluminum mast has the third least environmental impact and second least according to resource destruction. However, it comes second last by global warming potential. The creosote mast ranks at number three on the scale, according to global warming potential. It is the second highest values of human health and the highest values in the rest of the categories. Polyester mast has the third least environmental impact from global warming potential and is the highest, according to resource destruction. Additionally, it is the second least environmental impact in the rest of the categories. Nonetheless, it will also be interesting for contractor companies to look over the economic perspective related to the environmental impact of the different types of masts one builds a line of. It is the polyurethane mast that has the least environmental impact in all categories, which results in it being the most environmentally friendly.
