Rema Distribusjon Norge AS, Distribunal Trondheim, hereby referred to as RD Trondheim, executes approximately 320 weekly goods deliveries. The distribution terminal delivers goods to all of Trøndelag, as well as parts of Møre and Nordland. The numerous deliveries across lengthy distances create a possibility of big reductions of costs. This can be achieved through effective distribution and effective utilization of the goods transport. A possibility for optimizing the distribution of goods is canceling transportation, meaning that the delivery will occur at a different time than first planned. This will allow RD Trondheim to exploit the truck’s full capacity at a different time, by combining deliveries. Differing interests within the company make this decision challenging. This bachelor thesis has therefore centered around designing a decision model that shows the direct economic effects of the decision. This model is meant to be utilized as decision support for RD Trondheim. The decision model is constructed in Microsoft Excel, and the techniques that are used are mainly derived from classes in the logistics engineering study program. A more comprehensive testing confirmed the validity of the model. RD Trondheim confirmed that it is constructed according to their wishes. We have made certain limitations to prevent the project from exceeding the scope of a bachelor thesis. This mainly consists of simplifications of RD Trondheim’s production. All simplifications are documented and justified. Further on the decision model is used to illustrate examples of how it can be used to make decisions. Trends in the results are then discussed based on these examples. These results vary to a great extent based on the input used. It can still be concluded that the ratio of picking volume, employees and the workers’ efficiency is crucial in relation to economic profitability. Other inputs, such as production day and distribution route, will also make an impact.
