Lovecraft – Ein filmskapar sitt verste mareritt?

Abstract

Oppgåva tek for seg adapsjon av H.P. Lovecraft sin kortroman The Color out of Space (1927). adapsjonen i fokus er The Color out of Space (Richard Stanley, 2019). Eit forsøk på å definere den spesielle atmosfæren i Lovecrafian skrekk blir presentert. Teoriane som blir anvendt i analysen er i hovudsak mise en scène, lyddesign og til dels kinematografi. Det kjem fram at Lovecrafian skrekk er vanskeleg å få til på ein god måte på film, men ein definitiv konklusjon kan ikkje trekkjast.

The thesis compares two versions of the same story. It covers an adaptation of the short novel The Color out of Space (1927), written by H.P. Lovecraft, the adaptation is The Color out of Space (Richard Stanley, 2019). An attempt to define the special atmosphere in Lovecraftian horror will be presented. The main theories used to conduct the analysis are mise-en-scène, sound design and, to some extent, cinematography. It was impossible to conclude in a definite way, but based on these works one could say that Lovecraftian horror is difficult to properly adapt.
