Masteroppgaven analyserer stortingsvalgene i Verdal mellom 1909 og 1936. Oppgaven benytter folketellinger for å illustrere hvordan befolkningen i Verdal levde og arbeidet i gitte øyeblikk i 1910, 1920 og 1930. Ved å systematisk analysere stortingsvalgene etter hvilken valgordning som gjaldt er oppgaven inndelt i to tidsperioder med 1909-1918 og 1921-1936. De lokale valgresultatene i Verdal blir sammenlignet med de nasjonale resultatene for å illustrere forskjeller eller likheter i stemmemønsteret.

Oppgaven viser at partiet Venstre mistet dominansen lokalt, som det også gjorde nasjonalt. Som et resultat ble Verdal og landet ellers Arbeiderpartidominert etter 1936.

Abstract

This master thesis examines the parliamentary elections in the municipality of Verdal between 1909 and 1936. Due to changes in the election system the thesis is divided into two time periods with 1909-1918 and 1921-1936. The local election results are compared to the national results.

The thesis shows that the liberal party Venstre lost its dominance locally, as it did nationally. As a result Verdal and the country as a whole became dominated by the Labour Party after 1936.
