Kommentar av myten "det gylne skinn"

Abstract

Denne oppgaven tar for seg å kommentere den antikke myten om «det gylne skinnet». Versjonen av myten som refereres i teksten er skrevet av forfatteren som blir kalt Pseudo-Apollodorus, og den inngår som en del av et større antikk verk hetende Bibliotheca. Det blir tatt frem i innledningen hvordan dette verket har hatt betydning for både sin samtid og i senere tid. Informasjon om forfatteren av verket, samt hvilke deler av myten kommentaren setter søkelys på, blir også gitt i denne delen av oppgaven. For å vise til hvorfor kommentaren tar for seg en myte, og ikke en annen form for antikk tekst, blir det gitt en utdypning av myters betydning som en del av innledningen. Blant annet blir forskjellige innfallsvinkler for undersøkelser av myter diskutert. Før teksten så går over i kommentaren, blir det gitt en utredning av min egeninteresse, altså hvorfor valget for kommentaren falt spesifikt på myten om «det gylne skinnet». Når det så kommer til selve kommentaren, forklarer og fremhever den personer, steder, handlinger m.m. som illustrerer forfatterens skrivemåte, underholdningsmomenter i teksten eller ting som belyser strukturer i det antikke samfunn. På slutten befinner seg en liste med kilder og referanser som har blitt brukt i oppgaven.

This paper gives a commentary on the ancient myth “The Golden Fleece”. The version of the myth commented upon, is the one by Pseudo-Apollodorus in the Bibliotheca. The introduction describes how important this piece of literature was in its own time, in addition to its meaning in later years. Furthermore, in this part of the paper, some information about the author is given, as well as a discussion of the focus of the commentary on specific sections of the myth. To explain why my commentary takes on an ancient mythical text rather than a text from some other genre, I briefly elaborate on the importance of mythical stories. This elaboration includes paths one might follow when reading myths, which influence one’s examination-process of this kind of work. Thereupon, before the commentary, follows a brief, personal explanation of my own interest and reason for choosing to work with the myth of “The Golden Fleece”. As to the commentary itself, it highlights people, places, actions and more, which illustrate either the authors writing style, the way in which they, meaning the people or places, create tension and excitement in the story, or in what way they depict the societal structures of the ancient times. At the end of the paper, there is a list of sources used.
