Today there are good standards for environmental surveys around fish farms, but not any form of mapping or monitoring of wild fish in the vicinity. This thesis looks at the use of ROV as a tool for mapping benthic fish near fish farms, which species and at what distance they are found. One ROV survey at one fish farm was carried out, with transects from the plant running straight out from the cage using a compass course. Video cameras on the ROV filmed throughout the transects, and the video material was carefully analyzed for the identification of the benthic fish. Methods were established to estimate the number of benthic fish and the fish's distance from the cage. In the immediate vicinity of the facility and out to around 100m the number of benthic fish was estimated at about 11,500, with an average density of 0.074 fish / m2. The thesis reported the benthic fish's species, sizes and their distance to the cages. The distances at which the different species reacted to the ROV were also measured, smaller fish seemed more easily scared than larger fish. The results presented in the thesis indicate that ROV has great potential as a tool for mapping benthic fish, and that a survey of bottom fish can easily be carried out using this tool.en
