The rapport undertakes the workflow of analyzing previous work and improving it based on new technology from start to finish. The purpose of the thesis is to develop a concept, using 3D technology like 3D scanning, -modelling and -printing to improve today’s method of treatment for simple wrist fractures with the final goal of an automated process. The steps undertaken to reach the results are described, along with decisions and assessments taken throughout the process. Two prototypes have been developed, a manual scanner to test equipment and the available technology and a motorized scanner to implement automation. Content in the rapport include a literature study to map out previous work and development within relevant technology, the work process and assessments of various methods, results and findings from the course of the assignment, analysis of the current process with a basis in lean manufacturing and discussion regarding the work done. The result is a 3D scanner prototype that increases the quality of the scan and user friendliness compared to handheld scanning, and the concept of a motorized scanner in which the prototype has not been completed. Work on 3D-modelling showed that the modelling tool used in the thesis could be a hinder for automation of the process. In addition, the rapport concludes that 3D technology has reached an affordable level with software and hardware that produce point clouds of high quality. Furthermore, the rapport is the first in line to produce detailed scans with sufficient quality to generate prosthetics.en
