Windows Virtual Desktop

Abstract

Denne oppgaven viser oppsett av Windows Virtual Desktop, en ny Desktop-As-A-Service fra Microsoft, basert på en casebeskrivelse for en fiksjonell bedrift. Målet vårt var å gi et helhetlig bilde av hvordan man kan ta i bruk WVD ved å vise oppsett fra start til slutt, og vise hvilke muligheter man har. For å oppnå dette har vi gått for et relativt enkelt og minimalistisk oppsett, hvor vi hovedsakelig fokuserte på problemene som nevnes i casen, men går også gjennom alternative metoder og alternativer man har underveis.

Vi valgte å basere hele løsningen på Azure, ettersom dette virket mest interessant for oss, og dette ga oss muligheten til å bli bedre kjent med Azure og lære mer om hvordan det fungerer og hvordan det brukes. Derfor har vi kun sett på oppsett av WVD med Azure Active Directory og AADDS.

Dette dokumentet består av en forstudierapport, designrapport og driftsrapport. I forstudierapporten har vi gått gjennom prosjektmål, rammebetingelser og suksessfaktorer, og ser på prosjektorganisering, og analyser for gjennomførbarheten av prosjektet. I designrapporten ser vi på hvilke teknologier vi vil ta med i løsningen basert på kravene som stilles i casebeskrivelsen, og hvordan dette vil fungere for brukeren. I driftsrapporten går vi gjennom og dokumenterer alt vi har satt opp i Azure.

This project shows the setup of Windows Virtual Desktop, a new Microsoft Desktop As-A-Service, based on a case study for a fictional company. Our goal was to give a comprehensive overview of how to use WVD by showing the setup from start to finish and what options and possibilities you have using this technology. To achieve this, we have gone for a relatively simple and minimalistic solution, where we mainly focused on the problems mentioned in the case, but also go through different methods and alternatives one has along the way.

We chose to make the entire solution Azure-based, as this seemed the most interesting to us, and it gave us the opportunity to get to know Azure better and learn more about how it works and how it is used. Therefore, we have only looked at setup of WVD with Azure Active Directory and AADDS.

This document consists of a pre-study report, design report and operational report. In the pre-study report, we went through project objectives, framework conditions and success factors, and looked at project organization and analyses for the feasibility of the project. In the design report we look at what technologies we want to include in the solution based on the requirements set out in the case description and how this will work for the user. In the operational report we have documented the setup of our solution and go through all the necessary prerequisites in Azure.
