Title: Identify sepsis in elderly patients at ward. Reason: The reason is to show how nurses could be able to identify sepsis in the elderly patients at ward. Problem set: How can nurses identify sepsis in elderly patients at ward? Method: The method is a systematic literature study which includes relevant information on literature and science articles based on both a qualitative and quantitative method. The result: The nurse´s knowledge and competence on the symptoms of sepsis is of value for the identification of sepsis. NEWS is the most accurate mapping tool for identifying sepsis at ward. SIRS is less sensitive at identifying sepsis at ward and in the elderly patient with bacteremia. Elderly patients with bacteremia lack symptoms which are typical for the infection. Conclusion: Educating nurses at identifying symptoms of sepsis could reduce the chance of death. The role of the nurse, increased knowledge on sepsis and the use of mapping tools could help identify sepsis in the elderly patients at ward.
