Hvordan kan en sykepleier ivareta barn som pårørende til foreldre som er innlagt i behandling for alkoholavhengighet? I denne bacheloroppgaven blir det diskutert hvordan en sykepleier kan bidra med ivaretakelse av barn som pårørende, hvor hensikten er å finne ut hva en sykepleier kan bistå med etter beste evne for å sikre ivaretakelse av mindreårige barn når foreldre er innlagt til behandling for sin alkoholavhengighet. Det er utført en litteraturstudie, hvor det er innhentet relevant litteratur, forskning og egenbasert erfaring. I teoridelen tar jeg for meg forebyggende intervensjon, risiko og beskyttelsesfaktorer, barns utvikling, kommunikasjon og relasjon til barn, rus i et familieperspektiv og Joyce Travelbee’s sykepleieteori. I forskningen er sentrale tema som barn som pårørende-perspektivet, sykepleiers utfordringer og familieorientert praksis. I diskusjonsdelen presenteres ulike sider rundt sykepleiers funksjon i et familieperspektiv og hvilke utfordringer sykepleiere kan møte i arbeidet med barn som pårørende. Videre diskuteres hvordan en sykepleier kan identifisere barn som pårørende sine behov og sikre at de er ivaretatt.

Summary

To what extent can nurses take care of children as next of kin to parents admitted in hospital for treatment due to alcoholism? In this Bachelor –assignment the topic discussed is how a nurse can contribute to taking care of minor children while their parents are in hospital for treatment due to alcoholism. A literary study based on relevant material in addition to research and personal experience is accomplished. The theoretical part of the assignment is about preventive intervention, risk- and protective factors, child development, communication and relation to children, intoxication in a family perspective and Joyce Travelbee’s nursing theory. The perspective of children as next of kin, challenges as a nurse and family-orientated practice are the main topics in research. The discussion answers the question about how a nurse should work through/with the patient to identify the needs and take good care of the children, and nurses function in a family focused practice. The discussion also deals with the challenges nurses meet working with children as next of kin.
