Abstract Introduction: To be a parent of a hospitalized child, may be a stressor. In nursing studies in Norway, we learn how nurses have an important role in informing and supporting the parents during their child´s hospitalization. The purpose of this project is to examine how the nurses give information and support to the parents of hospitalized children. Method: Three qualitative, semi- structured interviews of nurses was done. The nurses interviewed work at pediatric wards in two different hospitals in Nepal. Some observations logged during the practical placement are used to highlight some key points. Relevant research and literature is used to support the discussion. Results: The results from the interviews show that the nurses give information to parents, but the doctors have the prime responsibility. The informants did not give the impression that they give information consecutively. Although, they emphasize the importance of giving guidance to the parents. The parents are not directly involved in the decision- making of the child´s treatment, but have to give consent to it. The informants have different approaches about giving the parents psychosocial support. The differences can be seen in the two hospitals. Time constrains is a factor that affects the profession. Conclusion: Nepal is a poor country where a majority of the population has low education. The nurses have a big focus on giving the parents good guidance before the child is discharged. Parents expect to be informed by the doctors. Support is given by involving the parents, but it is something the nurses in my project are unaware that they may do. Providing psychosocial support is not necessarily prioritized because the collectivistic society does not expect it of them.en
