Det komplekse menneskesinnet: En lesning av Hans E. Kincks novelle "Felen i vilde skogen"

Abstract

I denne oppgaven vil jeg innledningsvis presentere Kincks virke som novelleforfatter, og hva som kan sies å være særegent for hans noveller. Deretter vil jeg presentere et utvalg av novellesjangerens sentrale konvensjoner gjennom litteraturhistorien, men med et særskilt fokus på hva som har vært sentralt i europeisk og nordisk novellelitteratur. Med bakgrunn i disse konvensjonene vil jeg i denne oppgaven drøfte hvorfor jeg mener Hans E. Kincks noveller kan sies å utgjøre et skifte i den norske novellelitteraturen. For å begrunne dette vil jeg drøfte både i hvilken grad hans noveller er skrevet i tråd med sjangerens konvensjoner, og i hvilken grad han bryter med dem. I oppgaven vil jeg ta utgangspunkt i novellen «Felen i vilde skogen» fra Kincks debutsamling, og problemstillingen lyder som følger: Hva gjør at Hans E. Kincks noveller kan sies å være betegnende for et skifte til en moderne novellelitteratur i den norske litteraturhistorien?

In this assignment I will give an introduction of Kinck as a short story writer, and present what constitutes his authorship as a short story writer. Thereafter, I will present a selection of the conventions of the short story genre, that have been central throughout the literary history. I will especially focus on conventions central in the European litterture and the nordic literature. Based on these conventions I will discuss why I consider that Hans E. Kincks short stories constitute an alteration in the Norwegian short story literature. To justify this, I will discuss to what extent his short stories are written in line with the genre conventions, and to what degree he challenges them. I will base this assignment on the short story "The Fiddle in the Wild Woods" from Kincks first short story collection. I will be asking the following question: Why are Hans E. Kincks short stories crucial in the turning point towards a modern short story litterature in the Norwegian literary history?
