Title: «Nursing care for isolated patients». Purpose: To examine if isolated patients experience that isolation happens at the expence of psychosocial needs and illuminate how nurses can contribute to preserve these needs. Issue: How can the nurse contribute to preserve isolated patiens´psychosocial needs during their hospital stay. Method: A study of literature base don seven scientific articles and other literature from the syllabus and the subject of nursing. Result: Patients experience both positive and negative associations of being isolated for infection precaution, but the negative experiences are dominating. These experiences are related to symptoms of depression, anxiety, loneliness, stigma, the feeling of being contagious and lack of control. This happens as a result of poor flow of information, fewer health professional encounters, less contact with staff and redused quality of general care. Conclusion: The experience of being isolated is subjective and the nursing care should be adapted each patient. The nurses should provide complete and understandable information, be aware of their actions and prioritize this group of patients. Keywords: Isolation, infection prevention and control, psychosocial needs, nursing care.
