In this thesis I look at recent work related to colour science in fields not typically related to the film sciences, to try to find some better baselines for what dictates our reaction to colours as a part of the movie viewing experience. In doing this I point towards related study fields that could be interesting for further research in filmic science and attempt to explain how these findings could be used in our understanding and production of films. I base this work on a cognitive model inspired by Greg M. Smith’s model for the limbic system, with some improvements done to match recent developments in the cognitive fields, and in this I target three specific areas I propose are not sufficiently explored by the contemporary filmic literature on the subject. Towards the end I also attempt to use some of these findings in a study of a scene from Blade Runner: 2049 (Villeneuve, 2017) to show how some of these ideas could be used in the further work with, and analysis of, film.
