Abstract

Introduksjon: Prostatakreft er den vanligste kreftsykdommen blant menn i Norge. Kreftsykdommen har innvirkning på pasientens seksualitet og livskvalitet. Likevel er ikke temaet prioritert i sykepleieutøvelsen.

Hensikt: Belyse temaet seksualitet. Finne svar/ løsning på hvorfor temaet ikke er prioritert da seksualitet er et grunnleggende behov. Få kunnskap om hvordan sykepleier kan bidra til at pasienter som har gjennomgått radikal prostatektomi får et godt forhold til sin seksualitet.

Metode: Litteraturstudie er brukt som metode. Dette studiet er basert på fem vitenskapelige forskningsartikler, som har benyttet en kombinasjon av kvantitativ og kvalitativ forskning. Søkeord: prostate, urinary incontinence, erection, prostate cancer, nursing, sexuality, man, implications, surgery, experiences, oncology, communication.

Resultat: Artiklene og sekundærlitteraturen viser at mangel på kunnskap om seksualitet og sykepleieres unnvikende holdning påvirker pasientens seksuelle helse i negativ grad. Det kommer frem i studiene at tilstrekkelig informasjon og god kommunikasjon bidrar til god seksualitet og dermed økt livskvalitet.

Konklusjon: Det er behov for økt kunnskap om seksualitet blant sykepleiere. Tematikken bør i større grad implementeres i utdanningen, samt via kurs og fagdager for ferdigutdannede sykepleiere. Ved å inkludere pårørende som en ressurs styrkes pasientens evne til å mestre sykdomstilpasningen. I praksis kan dette gjøres ved hjelp av en felles prosedyre.

Introduction: Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men in Norway. The disease affects the patient’s sexuality and quality of life. However, the subject is normally not prioritized in the practice of nursing.

Purpose: Highlight the subject of sexuality. Find answers to why the topic is not prioritized when sexuality is a human need. Gain knowledge on how the nurse can help patients who have gone through a prostatectomy maintain a good relationship with their sexuality.

Methods: This is a literature study based on five scientific articles. The articles feature a combination of quantitative and qualitative research. Search terms: prostate, urinary incontinence, erection, prostate cancer, nursing, sexuality, man, implications, surgery, experiences, oncology, communication.

Results: The articles and secondary literature shows a lack of knowledge about sexuality, and the evasive nature often seen in nurses affect the sexual health of the patient negatively. The studies reviewed show that adequate information and clear communication contributes to a healthy sexuality and inherently a higher quality of life.

Conclusion: There is a need for an increased level of knowledge about sexuality among nurses. The topic should to a higher degree be implemented in education, as well as classes for educated nurses. By including relatives as a resource, the patient’s ability to master the acceptance of their illness is strengthened. In practice, this can be achieved through a common procedure.
