Abstract

Tittel: Hvilke barrierer kan flyktninger møte når de mottar offentlig helsehjelp, og hvordan kan disse barrierene minskes?

Hensikt: Hensikten med studien er å redegjøre for hvilke barrierer flyktninger kan møte når de mottar offentlig helsehjelp, og hvordan disse barrierene kan minskes.

Metode: Studien er utført ved bruk av litteraturstudie som metode. Det ble utført ustrukturerte og strukturerte litteratursøk, som resulterte i fem inkluderte fagfellevurderte artikler.

Resultat: Basert på funnene i de fem inkluderte artiklene, kom studien frem til tre områder hvor barrierer kan oppstå: 1. Kommunikasjon mellom pasient og helsepersonell 2. Organisering og informasjon om helsesystemet 3. Kulturelle forskjeller Flere mulige tiltak og tilnærminger til barrierene ble foreslått, blant annet bruk av tolk, kulturell kompetanseheving blant helsepersonell og koordinatorer.

Konklusjon: De identifiserte barriereområdene ble diskutert opp mot relevant teori for vernepleiere og helsepersonell generelt, samt de foreslåtte tiltakene og tilnærmingene fra artiklene. Diskusjonen konkluderte med at bruk av trente tolker for flyktninger, bruk av forenklet språk og mulighet for flyktningen til å velge egen tolk var mulige tiltak for å minske språkbarrierene. Kompetanseheving av kulturell forståelse blant helsepersonell vil kunne bidra til å minske barrieren som oppsto mellom helsepersonell og pasient, når de følte på kulturelle forskjeller. Alle informantene i artiklene hadde fått informasjon om helsevesenet i sitt bosettingsland, men av ulike grunner ble ikke informasjonen brukt. En helsekoordinator for flyktninger ble utprøvd ved et sykehus i Australia og hadde gode resultater, og det blir foreslått at dette kan prøves ut i andre land også, deriblant Norge.

Title: What barriers can refugees face when receiving public health care, and how can these barriers be reduced?

Aim: The aim of the study is to explain what barriers refugees can face when receiving public health csre, and how these barriers can be reduced.

Method: The study was conducted using literature study as a method. Unstructured and structured literature searches were conducted, resulting in five peer-reviewed articles.

Result: Based on the findings in the five included articles, the study identified three areas where barriers can arise: 1. Communication between the patient and health care professionals 2. Organization and information about the health system 3. Cultural differences Several possible measures and approaches to the barriers were proposed, including the use of interpreters, cultural competence enhancement among health care professionals and nurse liaisons.

Conclusion: The identified barrier areas were discussed with relevant theory for social educators and health professionals in general, as well as the proposed measures and approaches from the articles. The discussion concluded that the use of trained interpreters for refugees, the use of simplified language and the opportunity for the refugee to choose their own interpreter were possible measures to reduce the language barriers. Raising cultural understanding among health care professionals may help to reduce the barrier that arose between health care professionals and patients when they felt cultural differences. All the informants in the articles had been informed about the health care system in their country of residence, but for various reasons the information was not used. A refugee health coordinator was tested at a hospital in Australia and had good results, and it is suggested that this can be tested in other countries as well, including Norway.
